Hello! My name is Dáša, and I come from Slovakia. Ah, it’s always at the moment you are asked to introduce yourself, that you forget everything you have ever known to be true about who you are. Nonetheless, I remember that I enjoy basic things like watching movies and series, listening to music, reading books, and going for walks. If you had asked me if I was a ‘cats or dogs’ person, I would say cats, but my dog is my best friend and favourite living being, and no cats come even close.
Admittedly, my experience with volunteering so far has been limited to helping fundraisers during school hours, you know, the stuff you do instead of sitting in the classroom. However, I have come to consider volunteering to be part of an active citizenship, and a great way to feel useful, and do something meaningful. That’s kind of how I ended up here, in Macedonia.
Jokes aside, while staying in Skopje and working with VCS, I would like to get out of my comfort zone a little more to gain experience in volunteering and also socializing. I hope to learn about how a volunteering organization works, and perhaps acquire new skills I might get a chance to utilize in the future. Moreover, I would like to experience living in a culture different from mine, and broaden my horizons and understanding of the world. Hopefully, I will come out at the end a little wiser, a little stronger, and with a lot of new experiences to help me in the future.
