I am Emre Görkem. I am 24 years old, soon to be 25. My family mostly calls me Gorki, named after the Russian author. People are always telling me that my imagination and creativity is strong, so Gorki is one of the names that I accept. I was born and raised in Ankara, the gray city. That is why I love rainy and gray weather.
I’m an economics student. While I thought I hated the department in the first 3 years of university, I started to love it and enjoy it more in my last year. So, I’m having fun. But, the truth is I’ve never been a successful student. I’m kind of a person who tries to look outside of the box. That is why I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do in the future, but life is full of surprises, and I have a feeling that good things will happen.
So far, I’ve tried to collect memories from exploring new cities in Turkey and making new friends. Now I’m truly in a new adventure. Like one of the books of Jules Verne. Maybe I’ll think about writing one after my adventure ends. Exploring new places, feeling the energy of freedom makes me happy. Different cultures, different people but the same happiness. When I saw the opportunity of volunteering I immediately thought “this is the opportunity that I should take”. Then, it happened. Helping people and seeing the smile on their faces is priceless.
