Open yourself for volunteering

Warm-cold greetings from Dragan who is in Gdańsk, Poland, where spring already said “hi” but winter doesn’t let go so easily!

Dragan started volunteering at the RCWG office about two months ago. Besides office work, he is involved in different activities. He visits a school and a youth club twice a month.

“My main goal is to encourage young people to communicate in English. At the school, I usually deliver presentations about Macedonian culture, while at the youth club I focus on interactive speaking activities and informal conversations to help them feel more comfortable using the language.”

Organizing events is part of the activities and one of them mentioned by Dragan was an international event for volunteers in Gdańsk, where participants shared their cultures through food.

“This experience allowed me to develop my organizational and communication skills.”

The volunteering journey consists of moments and experiences.

“One of my favorite periods so far was the on-arrival week, as it gave me the chance to connect with other volunteers.”

“One of my most memorable moments has been playing basketball with the young people at the youth club, as it reminded me of how I used to feel when playing basketball with my friends.”

So far, Dragan’s experience brought him a lot of new connections and put him in the context of cultural exchange.

“I have met many wonderful people from different countries and backgrounds. Although we come from diverse cultures, it has been inspiring to see how the shared experience of volunteering brings us together.”

Dragan says that trying new things was one of his main motivations for joining this project. And he still has time to fully achieve his goal.

“I would like to challenge myself more in the coming months. I aim to be more outgoing, meet more people, and take part in new activities. I would like to experience local traditions, such as the April 1st custom of playing pranks, which I believe would be a fun and engaging cultural experience.”

We can’t wait to hear more from Dragan!
